Gnomewerx Comix: An Evolution in a Society in a Whirlpool

(Available in Paperback and on Kindle)

Wood follows candidate Trump into the glare of the national spotlight and trails his scent into the White House. As the Trump era unfolded, Wood found his drive for satirical comment diminishing. He grew increasingly concerned about the serious divide in American culture and worried that biting satire might not be the best medicine for a nation divided by hate and strident, reflexive opposition to the “other side’s” opinions. In 2018, Wood posted only three Gnomewerx Comix. The last panel, titled “Change Is Good!”, lampoons the hard-core ideology of Trump cabinet members: National Security Advisor Robert Bolton, former EPA Director Scott Pruitt and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. For the time being, author William J Wood Jr has walked away from the hard edge of satirical comment. His last two books, Harvesting Photons and Photographing the American West Aboard the Photon Bus, are photo-essays about the beauty, history, politics and geology of the American West, a landscape dear to his heart. The incisive, colorful pages of Gnomewerx Comix look at a time of radical change in American leadership and culture. By the time the reader arrives at the final panel, “Change Is Good!”, the sarcasm of that phrase will be obvious.
